Fundraising
In
an effort to keep tuition as low as possible, several fundraising
opportunities occur throughout the year where we can tap the resources of the
community as well as parents. There are also ongoing fundraising
activities, such as the SCRIP program. Here are some of the main
fundraising programs:
-
Basque Festival -
Early fall in the capitol city wouldn’t be complete without St. Teresa of
Avila’s famous Basque Festival, a community event held to support St. Teresa
School yearly since 1998. To honor the rich traditions of Northern Nevada’s
Basque heritage, this daylong event is held the third Sunday of September,
and has grown into a community-wide celebration. An estimated 2,000 people
attend the Basque Festival, enjoying the authenticity of fantastic food,
events, and entertainment. Quite simply there isn’t a better way to spend an
autumn Sunday. Visit the
Basque Festival web site for more information.
-
Walk Jog-a-thon - The combination
of walking and jogging allows youngsters of all ages to participate on St.
Teresa's annual spring fundraising event- the Walk Jog-a-Thon - held each
year in May. Now
in its 28th year, Walk Jog-a-Thon participants collect pledges from friends,
families, and local businesses to be paid for each lap of the field completed
on Walk Jog-a-Thon Day. Donors can also pledge a flat sponsorship fee
and be listed on the Walk Jog-a-Thon T-shirt. 100%
of all Walk Jog-a-Thon proceeds go directly to St. Teresa School.
-
Christmas Benefit - Students participate in an all-school Christmas
musical program, which is
the highlight of the annual Christmas benefit held at St. Teresa of Avila
Church in early December each year. The benefit also features a luncheon, bake sale, and raffle.

Stuff Our Kids and Classrooms Need
KidsAndClassrooms.com works with schools to provide web-based
donation wish lists that are communicated by schools and teachers to a
community donor base. Now every concerned parent and citizen can
help our school and teachers assure quality educational opportunities
for every student by donating education materials specifically request
by our school and our teachers. Click here to see the
St. Teresa wish lists by grade and/or
subject.
SCRIP
Scrip
is the easiest and least expensive way to support St. Teresa School.
It doesn't cost you a dime, and it takes very little of your time.
"SCRIP" is
a gift certificate - usually in the form of a gift card you might
purchase at the store - issued by many stores in our community where you already
shop regularly. Our school is able to buy these certificates at a
negotiated discount and resell them to you at full face value. The discount,
which averages 5%, is the net distribution retained by our school. If, for example,
you buy $100 worth of J.C. Penney gift cards (SCRIP), you still
have your full $100 in SCRIP to spend at J.C. Penney on whatever you want,
just like cash. Since our school bought the SCRIP for $95, J.C. Penney
has, in essence, donated $5 to our school.
SCRIP is
easy to use, and there are no restrictions in most cases. There is no
difference between SCRIP and cash when you go shopping. And, you can
purchase SCRIP for most of the places you shop: grocery stores, department
stores, restaurants, gas stations, and specialty stores! SCRIP
gift cards also make excellent birthday and Christmas gifts - get your
shopping done early this year! We have a good selection of SCRIP
regularly in stock in the SCRIP office - simply stop by before or after
school and pick up the SCRIP.
In
addition, the SCRIP office can special order SCRIP from the Great Lakes
SCRIP Center for a wide variety of stores, restaurants, and other
specialty companies. If you have a week or two, we can get the SCRIP
for you. Click here for the
Great Lakes SCRIP Center list to see what is available.
The SCRIP
program plays an important role in our school fundraising, while not
costing you any extra money. In school year 2005-2006 the SCRIP
program raised $22,833 for our school!
You can
have your Raley's Quality of Life card linked to St.
Teresa School and the store will donate a percentage of all sales to the
school when your card is used. Then simply turn in receipts with
your card number circled and a total of all pre-tax sales. This
amount then counts as a SCRIP purchase. Please see the SCRIP office,
because you can't participate in the Raley's Quality of Life card program
without a form from the SCRIP office. (NOTE: Safeway and
Albertson's cards are
no longer eligible for participation in this program.)
SCRIP Office
- The SCRIP office is now located between Fifth
Street and the front door of the school on Richmond. We have a flag
hanging outside beside our door when the office is open. The SCRIP
door should not be used for access to other areas of the school. Our
SCRIP office hours are: Tuesday - Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and
2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
* Travel with SCRIP
- Now you can travel with SCRIP as well.
Fly on American Airlines, plan a Disney vacation, or plan your own trip
staying at participating hotels. See our
SCRIP travel flyer
for more information.
You may
need a
certain amount of advance planning to utilize SCRIP for shopping
and travel. Please keep in mind your support of the SCRIP program
yields a healthy financial return for our school. Remember
-
you are spending this money anyway!
Do your shopping now with the
SCRIP order form.
Your participation in this program doesn't cost you anything, except maybe
a little time!
