Curriculum

Approximately 180 students attend our school classes in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade, with a full-day Kindergarten program.  St. Teresa School is accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association and Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

The school is on a traditional schedule: school opens the last week in August and closes within the first two weeks of June. Instructional hours for all classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  School uniforms are required (see information below).

The school's course of study is the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's Growing Together, a competency-based curriculum which provides scope and sequence for the academic and religious education programs. Emphasis is placed on religion, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science; however, opportunities are available for enrichment through other course offerings including Spanish, yearbook, physical education, library and computers.  St. Teresa School students receive thirty minutes of Catholic religious education daily.

St. Teresa students may also participate in wide variety of extracurricular activities.  For more detailed information, visit the About Our School page.

Our registration forms are located on the Forms page.

After School Program (ASP)

The St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School After School Program (ASP) offers extended care for students whose families elect to take advantage of this service with the intent of providing students and parents convenient, low-cost child care in a Christ-centered educational setting. The After School Program strives to construct an enjoyable atmosphere with varying activities, including vigorous play, homework time / assistance, and indoor and outdoor games. For details, please obtain a copy of the After School Program Handbook, or download a copy here.

An explanation of required supplies for each grade can be found on the Forms page.  Office Depot offers the Taking Care of Education program.  Every time parents and students give the St. Teresa School Back to Schools ID number when buying qualified school supplies at Office Depot our school receives credits equal to 5 percent of your purchase.  The St. Teresa School Back to Schools ID number is:  70069583.

Uniforms

To promote discipline and to foster school pride, students are expected to be in full uniform each school day with the exception of special "theme" days. Please obtain a copy of the Student Handbook to get complete details of St. Teresa of Avila School Dress Code. Uniforms must be purchased through through Dennis Uniforms. Dennis uniforms pays our school an 8 percent commission on all uniform sales! Clothing purchased from other vendors will not be considered compliant with the school's standards.

Uniform Update for 2008-2009 School Year:
The changes in our uniform regulations for the 2008-2009 are minimal and will assure that our students look neat and well dressed for school.  These changes will begin with eliminating sweatshirts.  Students will no longer be able to purchase sweatshirts for everyday wear- only for P.E. days.  Other selections include navy blue fleece vests, zippered fleece jackets, cardigan button down sweaters, hooded zippered  sweaters, and the newest and sharpest addition this year is the navy blue V-neck pullover sweater.  All these items must have the St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School logo embroidered on the lapel and must be purchased through Dennis Uniform.  For those of you who have purchased the sweatshirt this year, students will be able to wear them to school until they no longer look appropriate for school.  Sweatshirts that look faded or shabby can not be worn to school.

The powder blue polo shirts both long and short sleeve have been discontinued from the uniform selection.  All polo shirts must be white with the St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School logo.  However, if you purchased the blue shirts recently, your child will be able to wear them to school as long as they look presentable.  Again, if the shirts look faded, stained, or shabby, students will be told that these clothing items are not acceptable for school wear.

Both boys and girls can now wear shorts year round.

Boys will be required to wear white or powder blue oxford shirts from Dennis Uniform on Mass days. These can also be worn during the week.  Boys will also be required to wear a navy blue knit tie on Mass days - again, must be from Dennis.

Girls will be required to wear either a white Peter Pan blouse or white oxford shirt with a skirt, skorts, or jumpers on Mass days.

Girls will be able to purchase Peter Pan blouses in either long or short sleeve versions.  Hair adornments (headbands, bows, or ribbons) must match our uniform colors. Girls may wear white, blue, or plaid headbands or ribbons.  No other colors will be allowed other than on “free dress” days.

A detailed write up on the uniform changes will be included in the 2008-09 Student-Parent Handbook.
