Fifty Years of Academic Excellence

St. Teresa School opened its doors in September 1957 to grades one through six.  Under the leadership of the Daughters of Charity from 1957 through 1996, the St. Teresa of Avila parish school extended its program to include full-day kindergarten through eighth Grade.

First school building 1957Mrs. Christine Perdomo currently serves as Principal with an enrollment of 180 students and 15 full-time and part-time teaching positions.  Father Chuck Durante serves as Pastor-Administrator.

St. Teresa School is accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association and Western Association of Schools and Colleges.  The school is on a traditional schedule: school opens the last week in August and closes within the first two weeks of June.  Instructional hours for all classes are from 8:20 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. School uniforms are required and may be purchased through the Dennis Uniform Company.

The school's course of study is the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's Growing Together, a competency-based curriculum which provides scope and sequence for the academic and religious education programs. Emphasis is placed on religion, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science; however, opportunities are available for enrichment through other course offerings including school yearbook, instruction in physical education, school newspaper, library, music, computers, and Missoula Children's Theatre.  Field trips and assemblies are utilized to augment the instructional program. Great things happened in the summer of 2008 when Miles Construction, Mark Four Construction, and Creekside Electric remodeled the library and science and computer labs. Funded by a grant from the E.L. Wiegand Foundation, the project expanded the science lab, demonstration platform and station and added a Promethean Board, new science equipment and materials, flat screen television, furniture, incubator, fume hood, protective goggle sanitizers, and science stations for group science experiments. The computer lab was expanded to accomodate 35 students and funding was received for a set of class laptops with wireless capability in every classroom, including an extensive software library. The library received funding for new book shelves, a circulation center, library tables, comfortable furniture, pillows, and new books.

All classrooms have Internet capability and utilize the Accelerated Math program and Math Facts In a Flash.   The school also has Accelerated Reader to help students with their reading comprehension.

St. Teresa School students receive thirty minutes of Catholic religious education daily.  Other religious activities include:  daily all-school gathering and prayer service, daily opening and closing prayers, monthly school Mass, seasonal prayer services, First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion preparation for second graders, and priests' visitations and instruction.  Classes adopt service projects each year to assist the larger parish and/or community.

St. Teresa students enjoy a wide variety of extracurricular activities:  Student Council, Geography Bee Competition, Science Fair, Choir, Boys' and Girls' Basketball Teams (grades 4 - 8), co-ed Flag Football, and co-ed Volleyball Team (grades 4 - 8). Track and field activities are offered each spring to students in all grades. Student Council and Eighth Grade sponsor activities including:  Talent Show, Halloween Carnival, school dances, bake sales, marketplace, FISH Canned Food drive, and theme dress-up days.

Parent involvement is the key to St. Teresa School's success.  Every family has a minimum obligation of thirty volunteer hours each school year.  Parents are also expected to support school fundraisers such as the SCRIP program, as well as the Christmas Benefit, Basque Festival, and Walk Jog-a-Thon.  All St. Teresa parents are members of the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO).  Opportunities for parental leadership are available through the School Board, PTO, and the Technology Committee.

Enrollment preference is as follows:

  • First preference is given to siblings of currently enrolled students;
  • Second preference is given to Category A families (Member of St. Teresa Parish, tithes $400 to parish, $50 to Catholic Services Appeal, and verified weekly worship);
  • Last preference is given to Category B families (all others who do not meet the second preference criteria).

The current fee and tuition schedule can be found here. School tours and/or questions should be addressed to the school principal, Mrs. Christine Perdomo.
