Academics & Student Success

Our school provides students with educational opportunities guided by the standards of the Diocese of Reno Academic Standards, Teaching for the 21st Century, and the Nevada State Standards. Language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, religion, computers, and physical education are taught at all grade levels. The staff assesses academic achievement scores annually to constantly meet the high standards of education at this school.

More than Fifty Years of Academic Excellence

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School opened its doors in September 1957. Under the leadership of the Daughters of Charity from 1957-1996, the school was taught by this religious order. Today, the school maintains the academic standards that were established over fifty years ago and celebrates myriad achievements of its distinguished alumni.

Student Test Scores

The SAT 10 testing results show the majority of our students consistently score in the 60th to 80th percentiles nationally. Student performance on the subtests indicates that student achievement aligns with subject area expectations. We consistently score above in the 80th-90th percentiles in the Nevada Writing Proficiency examination in the 5th and 8th grade levels.

Philosophy, Goals and Objectives

The goal for our students is that they become active Christians and have deep admiration and respect for the Catholic faith based on catechetical teachings. In alignment with Catholic identity and philosophy, students perform a variety of services and tasks throughout the community. Students learn and practice Catholic teaching by participating and planning in liturgies, praying daily, regularly receiving sacraments and using sacramentals. Students will demonstrate the confidence, articulation, and well-mannered behavior consistent with good citizenship and self-discipline.

The St. Teresa of Avila Child Development Center preschool program provides a learning environment that is experiential, nurturing, safe and positive. Each child has the opportunity to explore, learn, make friends and feel successful. Our focus is on the whole child with emphasis on the spiritual, social, academic, emotional and physical aspects of each student. The parents are the first and most important teachers in a child's life. Through strong communication and support we form partnerships between parents and staff.

Let nothing upset you, let nothing startle you. All things pass; God does not change. Patience wins all it seeks. Whoever has God lacks nothing: God alone is enough.
